DOUGHERTY COUNTY, GA -
Dougherty County Police have issued 6 arrest warrants for an Atlanta man who cashed several counterfeit payroll checks while wearing a security guard uniform.
And Investigators believe Michael Simmons has been using this scheme in several states across the nation. This is surveillance video from an Albany convenience store in February, as Simmons, wearing a Priority Security uniform, cashed a phony payroll check from that company for more than 400 dollars. Police say he cashed dozens of similar checks in several other South Georgia counties. Last month the computer used to make those checks was seized during the arrest of a woman in Ohio.
"During the forensics of the computer, some of these same checks and the same counterfeit name were found inside the computer", said Sgt. Chad Kirkpatrick. "So we of course are working with the Ohio state police on this investigation also."
Police are not sure where Michael Simmons is, but they think he is heading a counterfeit check forging operation across the nation.
If you have any information about Simmons, call Dougherty County Police at 430-6600 or CRIMESTOPPERS at 436-TIPS. You could earn a reward.
