Cook defense ready to tackle Fitzgerald

The cool air of early October means we are at the halfway point in the high school football regular season.

The battle for region titles start to heat up with some great matchups on the schedule this Friday night.

One of the best is in Fitzgerald.

The 5th ranked Purple Hurricanes host unbeaten and 3rd ranked Cook.

The Hornets are unbeaten because they have a defense that has allowed only 19 points in their first four games.

The Cook defense faces one of their biggest challenges in the Jason Strickland version of the wing T offense at Fitzgerald.

The new Purple Hurricanes head coach expecting a tough battle from the Hornet defense.

Fitzgerald head coach Jason Strickland said. "Probably the quickest group we have gone up against. We are going to have to play very, very well on the offensive side of the ball. We made a lot of mistake. Last Friday we made a bunch of them. If we kind of do the same thing this Friday, it will be a tough night."

Cook head coach Ken Cofer said. "When you are facing an option type team, you have to be disciplined. Our defense has been that way all year. Our defensive staff definitely gets after it seven days a week."

Game time is 7:30 p.m. Friday in Fitzgerald.
