ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Albany-Dougherty Inner City Authority board approved several contracts, Wednesday night, that will result in nearly $400,000 worth of improvements to downtown.

The deals get the ball rolling on projects such as the Albany Art Park and a major streetscape project that will replace sidewalks, install new street lights and resurface the road in the 100 block of Pine Avenue.

"It's a safety hazard first and foremost, but visually it's just a nightmare as well. So with having so much investment in the RiverQuarium and Front Street, it needs to be at the top of the list," said Albany Downtown Manager Aaron Blair.

Work on the projects is scheduled to start in early November.
