If you love peanut butter but don't love the fat and calories, America Now wellness expert, Peggy Hall recommends adding 3 tablespoons of plain, fat-free yogurt to 1 tablespoon of peanut butter to increase portion size without added fat! "You can also sprinkle in dash of cinnamon for blood-sugar balancing and a drizzle of honey for sweetness," says Peggy, "You actually triple your portion size while increasing protein and calcium; There's no added extra fat and only about 25 more calories!"
Here's Peggy's recipe for her favorite Peanut Butter-Banana-Cake snack:
1 Tablespoon peanut butter
3 Tablespoons plain unsweetened nonfat yogurt
2 rice cakes
1 medium banana, sliced
Mix the peanut butter and yogurt together in a small bowl. Spread this mixture on 2 rice cakes and top with sliced bananas.
Bonus! Bananas contain potassium to keep your heart healthy and also prevent cramps and leg pain.
Peggy says you can also extend mayonnaise by adding a tablespoon of yogurt to a tablespoon of mayo. It's tangy flavor perfectly complements the mayo and no one in your family will be the wiser!
