Big Valdosta waterway clean-up scheduled Saturday

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Keep Lowndes County and Valdosta Beautiful is gearing up for a huge waterway cleanup event this weekend.

Rivers Alive is part of Georgia's annual River cleanup month.

The organization got such great response, they had to cut off volunteer sign up.

250 volunteers will clean up a record eight different waterways in the area.

Organizers say they're glad to see less trash each year.

"I like to think that what we do is really making a difference out here, because the amount of trash and illegal dumping, and litter and those sorts of things we find each year has decreased every year," said Aaron Strickland, Executive Director of Keep Lowndes/Valdosta Beautiful.

The volunteers will meet this Saturday for the cleanup.

If you'd like to help with next event in three weeks contact Aaron Strickland at 229-671-3698, or visit www.klvb.com.
