ASHBURN, GA (WALB) -
It all started when one man had a vision of opening up his own meat store. Hugh Hardy's dream became reality in 2001 when he bought Carroll's Sausage and Meats.
"I just had this vision of opening up putting a meat department, opening up my own department in Ashburn, Georgia and I don't know, I'll just tell you God put some people in places and it came together and here we are," says Hardy.
He and his wife, Hannah, celebrated the opening of their third store this morning. It's right off of I-75 in Ashburn and leaders say will help not only the city but Turner county continue to thrive.
"When a business owner does a project like this it's jobs for plumbers, it's jobs for electricians, it's jobs for carpenters and this business right here will bring traffic off I-75 and hopefully get some more business into downtown Ashburn and help other businesses," says Georgia Congressman, Austin Scott.
The new location employees more than 20 people and offers a variety of food items as well a sit down restaurant. But it wasn't always a shiny new building ready for business.
"It was an original old brick building, looked like a school house, like an old school house," says the couple.
And the couple says even the walls have a story to tell.
"We actually cut the pine trees down and sent them to a saw mill and that's what the walls are made of," says Hannah.
Hardy says it was hard to stay afloat during a rough economy but thanks to the support of his loyal customers, Carroll's Sausage and Meats will continue to dish up products so many people crave.
