ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Georgia State Troopers say drug traffickers are using more back roads in South Georgia to try to avoid detection.

Albany Troopers found a half pound of marijuana during a traffic stop Friday evening.

29 year old William Price is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Trooper Darryl Benton pulled Price over on Willingham Drive for a seat belt violation and found a half pound of marijuana under the driver's seat and a derringer in his pocket.

"A lot of times traffickers are using, they are evading the interstates now. Coming down the rural routes to try and avoid the Sheriff's Departments and other agencies that are out there enforcing those types laws in situations," said Sr. Trooper Darryl Benton, Georgia State Patrol.

Troopers say they have to look for suspicious activity during traffic stops on even the most rural road. Price was released on a $20,000 bond.
