ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
With elections in a little over a month, candidates have started heavily campaigning here in South Georgia.
Democrat Gene Mitchell is a candidate for the state Senate District 7 seat and made a stop in Albany this afternoon.
He says the voters are the ones who decide what goes on in Georgia and he wants them to know that his plan to improve the local school systems would be his first thing on his agenda.
"Because of the huge de-funding over the past decade, every single year, just my county, ben hill county, has lost one million dollars alone just in the de-funding of gas and fuel buses. The state use to provide 60 percent, they only provide now looking around 25 percent. It's absolutely unreasonable, absolutely unaccountable," says Mitchell.
State Senator Greg Goggans is retiring. Tyler Harper is running on the GOP ticket in the District 7 senate race.
