ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Another crash at a dangerous Dougherty County intersection sent 3 people to the hospital tonight. It happened on US 19 at Nelms Road where police say a truck hit the tail end of a car causing it to crash into a ditch.

US 19 at the intersection Nelms Road has seen a lot of crashes over the years and tonight was no different.

"I went to maneuver out the way and just wasn't quick enough, he got the rear corner panel," Travis Latner.

Latner was turning into Flash Floods gas station when a truck hit the right corner panel of his girlfriends Buick. And while Latner escaped without a scratch, his three passenger weren't so lucky.

They were rushed to Putney hospital for immediate care. Latner's girlfriend thankful he's alright but says something needs to be done about the dangerous intersection.

"There's so many vehicles that travel this road you know and nighttime's mainly the worst when you don't know if they're coming or what they were doing and when you go across that you've got to pray to God that you're not going to hit something," says Kimberly Smith.

Dougherty County Police responded to the wreck and say it isn't the first time.

"We've worked a number of fatalities there over the years. The DOT put in some caution lights but that really hasn't helped out," says Lieutenant M J Wood.

County police say the intersection is in desperate need of a red light but it's up to Georgia's Department of Transportation to make the call.

At least 2 fatalities have occurred at that intersection in the past 4 years. The most recent was last September. Commissioners would have to approach G DOT again to get another traffic light study at Nelms and 19.
