ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A 6 year old boy in Albany needs your help to fight a rare incurable disease.

Curt Poer has Leigh's disease, which is a form of Mitochondrial Disease that attacks your central nervous system.  It is the body's inability to turn food into the energy needed to sustain life.

Mitochondria are responsible for creating more than 90% of the energy needed by the body to sustain life and support growth.

It begins with the inability to move and spreads quickly. Curt started showing symptoms in May of 2011 and by August 2011 he was in a wheel chair.

His legs have gotten worse, it is in his arms and it is in his trunk muscles and they say it will go to all the muscles in his body," says Katharine Poer, Curt's Mother.

His family wants Curt to participate in a clinical trial and is trying desperately to raise money to make this happen.

You can donate to Curt's benefit fund at AB&T National Bank on Meredyth Drive.
