ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Hundreds of children showed up at Tift park today for Albany Family Play day. Georgia ranks number two in the nation for childhood obesity rates.

That is one reason why the Albany Recreation and Parks Department teamed up with Youth Becoming Healthy to encourage young people to play like a kid again.

It's part of Nickelodeon's Worldwide Day of Play, dedicated to celebrate healthy and active play.

"We want our kids to be healthy, and we know obesity is a huge problem in the United States, so the best way to do that is to get out and get active,so we are encouraging people to enjoy their outdoors, and really learn about their parks system in their community," says Suzanne Davis, Recreation and Parks Director.

The Home Depot brought art and craft activities for the kids. They also got to enjoy bouncy rides, and relay races.
