ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
Hundreds of Dougherty County middle and high school students get hands-on experience in construction jobs they could make a career of.
More than 500 students took part in Albany Technical College's sixth annual Careers in Construction event.
Area construction companies showed off their trades such as masonry, electrical, carpentry, welding, painting, and heating and air conditioning.
13 year old 8th grader Santissa Mosely liked making a wall and said masonry could be for her.
"I know how to put the cement very well on the bricks and I just like the job," said Santissa Mosely, Southside Middle School Student.
"Construction jobs are still plentiful. However we are losing those trained cadre of folks coming through. So we are trying to revitalize that and try to get them interested in it so they want to follow on and have a construction job in the future," said Tony Varamo, MetroPower.
The construction company sponsors say they want to reach students early in their education, to give them information about technical and construction careers.
