THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

A Thomasville man remains in jail charged with rape and aggravated assault.

Police say the victim claims she was standing outside the store waiting for her husband to pick her up.

Police say 46-year-old William Eugene Gilbert approached the 45-year-old victim from behind outside a convenience store on the 500 block of West Jackson Street.

He placed a sharp object against her neck, and forced her to his home at 118 Victoria Place.

Police say the victim was able to escape from Gilbert's home, but not before she was sexually assaulted.

Gilbert was denied bond and remains in jail.
