Albany Technical College is getting a million dollar grant that will benefit the school's engineering program.

It's one of three technical colleges in Georgia awarded a share of a $13.6 million Consortium grant to help programs that prepare students to meet the needs of companies with engineering technology.

Albany Tech's share will be about $1.2 million over three years.

School Officials say it will better prepare students for the workforce.

"That's our objective is to make sure we give students all the opportunities we can to exceed and get into the workforce. Because these particular fields are needed and we have the population here that needs that particular training, so we want to make sure we offer everything we can for them," said Dean of Academic Affairs Emmett Griswold.

The other two Georgia schools receiving the grant are Atlanta Tech and Athens Tech.
