Phoebe Putney Hospital held an event Wednesday to raise awareness about prostate cancer.

More than 100 men and women showed up at Phoebe Northwest to learn more about the illness during prostate cancer awareness month.

Speakers discussed prostate heath and dealing with sexual side effects of prostate problems.

One doctor says the best way to beat prostate cancer is early detection.

"The only time the doctor can help you is when it's picked up very early. After that is doesn't matter who the doctor is. Once it spreads it spreads. The only medicine is early detection," said Dr. Rex Ajayi.

Dr. Ajayi recommends regular prostate exams after the age of 40.
