MILLER CO., GA (WALB) -
An 11-year-old Miller County boy will be tried as a juvenile for the shooting death of a 12-year-old playmate.
Prosecutors say the 11 year old intentionally shot and killed 12-year-old Braden Dakota Phillips with a .22 caliber rifle last May.
He's charged with felony murder.
His name isn't released because the case is being tried in juvenile court.
His father, Emory Mathis, is charged with reckless conduct for allowing his child to keep a loaded weapon and ammunition in his room.
If convicted, the child could be released from prison by the time he's 21-years-old.
We need to correct a statement that was made Wednesday night at 11.
In reporting charges against an 11-year-old Miller County boy who is accused of shooting and killing a playmate, we incorrectly reported that the boy was indicted.
While he is charged with the murder of 12-year-old Braden Dakota Phillips, he is not under indictment.
