VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

The Valdosta City School System picked a local architect to design the new high school.

Altman and Barrett Architects will design the $70 million building.

Designing the facility is the first phase.

School officials hope to start construction in two years.

"It's exciting to me just to know that it's going to get off the ground. We need a new facility so badly because our current facility is just not adequate anymore," said Dr. Bill Coason, VCS Superintendent.

Cason says the current VHS building may become the new district office.
