Lee County sells small piece of golf course

LEESBURG, GA (WALB) -

Lee County Commissioners voted Tuesday night to sell a small section of Grand Island Golf Course property to make sure a new development happens.

Developers plan to build business space and townhomes and villas on the west side of the golf course where the Westover Boulevard extension will be built, but they didn't have enough land to meet greenspace requirements.

Commission Chairman Ed Duffy said, "This will have no affect on the golf course whatsoever. This is a very narrow easement. It's just enough land so that they can move forward with their commercial development."

The narrow 1.6 acre strip the county sold won't actually be developed. It will be maintained as greenspace by the new owners.
