City commissioners voted unanimously to put a 120 day moratorium on new personal care homes, Tuesday.

Right now, the city has no application process to screen people who want to open personal care or group homes.

Commissioners say they need to study how those homes may affect property values and neighborhood safety and come up with rules.

Commissioner Christopher Pike says the moratorium doesn't mean the city is against those types of establishments.

"The important thing to understand is that we're not trying to eliminate these types of facilities in our city. We just want to make sure that they are put into areas that could be the most beneficial to the people who are getting served and also the neighborhoods they're going in," said Ward III Christopher Pike.

The moratorium comes after residents of one north Albany neighborhood complained about a proposed group home in their neighborhood.
