Fatal motorcycle accident in Lowndes

LOWNDES COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

State troopers are still investigating that fatal motorcycle crash last night.

Yesterday afternoon, a motorcycle and a car tried to pass a group of cars on Old Highway 41 at the same time.

The motorcycle ran off the two-lane highway and crashed into a tree.

45-year-old James Lumpkin was killed. Off-duty Paramedic Joe Cowart was driving the car. He performed CPR on Lumpkin but could not resuscitate him.

"He actually locked his breaks and skid a considerable distance out of the south bound lane before reaching the shoulder in every attempt to avoid the collision," said GSP Trooper, Shane Copeland.

Investigators don't think either driver was speeding. The GSP's Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is handling the investigation.
