THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

Thomasville's Jack Hadley Black History Museum is happy to have been chosen from among numerous competitors to receive a $32,634.00 grant.

Just fourteen programs received Museum Grants for African American History and Culture.

The grant will help the museum with its continuing outreach efforts.

Founder and curator Jack Hadley says they will use the money to hire a registrar and create a new internship program.

"It's important because there is so much history, African American history, that's been lost. Its dumped aside. People have no interest in it. So that is why it's my passion to preserve this history. Not for my generation, but for the future generation."

The Alexander Street museum is home to over 3,000 artifacts representing the African American experience in South Georgia.

The museum occupies the are area where the Douglass High School was located in the Dewey City Historic District.
