Positive news is out about Georgia high school students' performance on the SAT.

The average score of this year's senior class in Georgia increased seven points as the national average decreased by two points.

One high school student we talked to says the sluggish economy and possibility of high student loan debt are incentives to do well on the test.

"When you hear about all the scholarship opportunities you get through SAT scores, there's so many. There are numerous ones, so I think that really drives them to think they can do better," said Westover High School Senior Sayna Patel.

African Americans and Latinos in Georgia did better on the test than their counterparts nationwide.

81 percent of Georgia students took the SAT, the 7th highest rate in the country, and much higher than the national rate of just 31 percent.
