Ride for Suicide Awareness

Posted: Updated:

THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - On average, one American dies by suicide every 16 minutes.

During National Suicide Awareness Month, one south Georgia hospital is reaching out to try to lower that rate.

Motorcyclists are invited to Archbold Northside Saturday morning for the third annual Ride for Awareness Poker Run and Car Show.

The ride will educate people about early warning signs and will raise money for the Thomas County Family Connection.

"The whole idea at this point is to get the message out that suicide is becoming more and more an epidemic. The statistics are really scary, in terms of even veterans, kids, the number of people that are dying as a result of suicide has just gone up immensely," said Administrator James Terry.

The ride begins at Northside then travels to every Archbold location in Southwest Georgia.
