New Valdosta High School to be built

Posted: Updated:
VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Valdosta High School has outgrown its 40-year-old building, and the school system is preparing to build a new facility.

Tonight the Valdosta Board of Education will chose the architect to design the new school.

Last week, IPG, Altman and Barrett and, Ellis, Rickett and Associates presented their plans for the new school.

Some VHS graduates are sad to see the old school go.

"It's just the heart of the town everybody knows it, nationwide from here to Florida, Miami, Texas, you talk about Valdosta High School you talk about winners," said former student, Rex Browning.

School system officials have not decided what they'll do with the current building.

The new school will sit on 185 acres on the corner of Lakeland Highway and Inner Perimeter Road.
