DOUGHERTY COUNTY, GA -

Law enforcers, lawyers and other juvenile justice officials visited Dougherty International Education Middle School today stressing the importance of peace.

Friday is International Peace Day.

Nearly 20 local leaders spent time with sixth through eighth graders answering questions and giving information about the consequences of criminal activity.

Officers said they will NOT tolerate gang violence and stressed how important it is to keep the peace at home too.

"We want our kids to realize there is a better way of doing things, also with your teachers mentors and others trying to teach you right from wrong they need to listen," said Cassandra Jennings, Crime Prevention Intervention Officer

This was the first time the school invited officers. Due to the positive reaction they plan on doing it again next year.
