Crime stoppers golf tournament goal to raise $4K

Posted: Updated:

Dougherty County law enforcers say the Crime stoppers tip line has played a huge role fighting crime and is needed now more than ever.

The Fifth Annual Crime Stoppers Golf Tournament teed off Friday at the Grand Island Golf Club.

It hosted its largest field ever, 116 golfers including many law enforcement and business leaders.

The money raised today goes to pay rewards for anonymous tips called in to help solve crimes.

"They have aided law enforcement in so many cases. In solving so many cases since their inception here in Albany and Dougherty County," said Sheriff Kevin Sproul, Dougherty County.

"Tips are on the rise. We're getting in more tips and in turn paying out more money.  That's what an event like this is so important," said Jamie Knight, Tournament Chairman.

Crime stoppers officials say their goal is to raise $4,000 dollars with Friday's golf tournament.
