DOUGHERTY COUNTY, GA -

Dougherty County Police Chief Don Cheek is announcing his plans to retire November 9th because of health reasons.  Cheek said he has been diagnosed with leukemia, and wants to spend more time with his family.

Cheek has served in law enforcement since 1971, the last nine and a half years as the Dougherty County Police Chief.

Cheek has informed his department and county commissioners about his retirement plans.  The Dougherty County Commission will decide his replacement.
