THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - Roughly 25 million cats are euthanized every year in the United States.
And a South Georgia no-kill shelter says preventing that is difficult.
The Miss Kitty Feline Sanctuary in Thomasville is planning an adoption drive to try to alleviate their overpopulation problem.
The organization says they have to turn down hundreds of cats a week because they don't have the room or the resources to keep them.
"As a no kill, no cage shelter, we're usually the first call from the public donating cats, turning them in. And that being the case we receive up to 200 calls a week," said Sanctuary President W. G. Jerry Henderson.
"They multiply so rapidly, it's very difficult to find homes for cats so it's really critical that people spay and neuter their animals whether it be cats or dogs," said Shelter Volunteer Carol Jones.
The adoption drive is October 6th at the shelter on Covington Avenue.
