Albany State University is getting more than $3.7 million in federal money to help historically black colleges.

The US Department of Education is handing out grants to black colleges in 19 states.

ASU is getting the most money of any school in Georgia.

It's money ASU leaders say they rely on to strengthen their campus.

"We have been able to use these grants to do some extraordinary programs such as our CAM program, which is our center for African American males, learning communities here on campus, we've added technology to the classrooms, and it goes on and on and on, and so we depend upon these fundings because we also have personnel that are supported by these title 3 dollars," says Connie Leggett, ASU Title 3 Director.

Nationwide 97 grants were awarded totaling nearly $230 million.
