Remember that salmonella outbreak a few years ago traced back to a peanut plant in south Georgia? Peanut industry leaders get a first hand look at testing done to make sure that doesn't happen again.
The Georgia Peanut Tour stopped at JLA Global in Albany Wednesday afternoon to see its peanut quality control testing lab.
They learned what the lab does on a daily basis and what they test for.
"We had 150 people come through our lab today, we welcomed them into Southwest Georgia, we had peanut buyers, we had obviously procurement, growers, farmers, university staff entomologist, researchers of all size, shape, and description, so we had people from industry and academia," says Jane Campbell, President of JLA.
Earlier in the day, the group made stops in Terrell, Lee, and Sumter counties.
The main goal of the 26th annual Georgia Peanut Tour is to showcase Georgia's peanut industry.
