Albany Firefighters continue hazmat training

Posted: Updated:

All Albany Firefighters continue hazmat training saying handling hazardous material situations now are just as likely as putting out a house fire.

All Albany firefighters this month are suiting up to train with the department's new chlorine spill equipment.

Training they say that could be life saving for the community.

"Hazmat is more or less becoming like structural fire fighting, which we train everyday. And we have to put hazmat in there.  You can't ignore it," said Training Chief Rubin Jordan, Albany Fire Department.

ISO requires firefighters to train annually for hazmat and radiological disasters.

The Albany Fire Department sends about a dozen firefighters to national training seminars every year, to keep up on the latest information.
