ATHENS, GA (WALB) -
Georgia farmers could bear the brunt of the latest round of budget cuts at the University of Georgia.
Forty Cooperative Extension Service jobs that are now vacant or filled with temporary workers will be cut. Job cuts are also coming to UGA's network of Agriculture Experiment Stations.
Governor Nathan Deal ordered a 3% cut in state spending across the board. For UGA that's about $11 million. The university says much of that, including 70 of 130 job cuts, will come from the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences which operates the Extension Service.
