It was night like any other, until one man tragically lost his life.

"On January 5, 2008, we were called by the TerrelL county police department and asked to look into the death of Mr. Lucious Bucanan, Mr. Bucancan had been found in his home, shot," says GBI special agent, Kim Baker.

The woman who found him, his daughter, Cynthia Oxford who says she remembers that night like it was yesterday.

"Not a day goes by that I don't think about my dad, I think about the way that I found him murdered, I think about the laugh that we had, the tears that we shared, and all that he and I shared together because he was not just my dad, he was my best friend," says Oxford.

She says he was the perfect father; a man who could always make you feel better.

"I would laugh at things that weren't even funny, you know just because it came from him and he just had that type of sense of humor that would make you laugh and brighten your day."

It's been nearly 5 years since the father of three and Sunday school teacher was murdered in Dawson, but still no answers.

"I would have never thought in a million years that this would have happened to, not that we're exempted, but that this would happen to my family or anyone else in Terrell county because it's a small county but it has happened and it's very painful," says Oxford.

GBI agents in Sylvester took over the case and say they are still actively working it, but family members say they want justice.

Buchanan's sister, Helen Vanover says, "It's just unexplainable, you know you just try to figure out, and I am still asking, why. Not just because of us, but why would you do something like that to anybody, no body deserves that."

Buchanan would have celebrated his 74 birthday in 2 weeks but the family says they'll be remembering him on that special day.

The family is planning a candle light vigil in honor of Lucious' birthday and they hope it will encourage any one who has any information in his murder to come forward.

If you have any information about the murder of Lucious Buchanan, you're asked to call the GBI office in Sylvester at 229-777-2080.
