EDC: 450 jobs created in Albany

Posted: Updated:

The President of the Albany Dougherty Economic Development Commission assures county leaders the EDC is working hard to bring new businesses to the area.

Ted Clem updated the County Commission on the EDC's five-Year Strategic Plan Monday. In the last year, more than 450 new jobs have been created, including about 180 thanks to the Olive Garden.

The EDC is focusing on recruitment, retention, and renewal by promoting the positive things Albany has to offer.

"New jobs and new business is the future, keep what you have, make sure you have a pro business environment and secondly continue to create a product that you can sell to bring in these companies" said Dougherty County Commission Chairman Jeff Sinyard.

The EDC is working to overcome some hurdles that may keep businesses from moving here.

These include racial and socioeconomic issues, problems within the school system, and negative perceptions of Albany.
