Mayor discusses initiative to clean up city

Posted: Updated:

The Mayor of Albany held a meeting Saturday to discuss her initiative to clean up the city.

Mayor Hubbard's initiative includes cleaning up litter in Albany and getting rid of dilapidated property, but she says it's going to take the whole community.

Groups who've previously signed pledges to take on part of the city were invited to the meeting. They were given trash bags and gloves to get started.

City officials hope this will also help Albany's economy.

"If people see that we care about ourselves, they know that we are a community that matters, we always try to promote small businesses coming into the city and the county, if the community looks good when they come in to visit they will says wow I want to live there," says Wes Smith, Assistant City Manager.

The municipal court judge is assisting in the mayor's call to service by assigning community service workers to help clean up the areas where they do not have people assigned.
