The Georgia Department of Education has created a corrective action plan for the Dougherty County School System.

The Title Program Division says the state will take over all activities dealing with any federally funded Title One money.

The school system has to pay back more than 134 thousand dollars in federal money that was not properly spent.

Georgia DOE says now, they are taking action by sending their own representative to deal with the unpaid money.

Dougherty County School board members say this could have been solved months ago.

"We have done some things wrong, we need to move forward and we need to get things right. But it's like we're the ostrich with the head in the sand, you know think it's going to go away. It's much much too serious and until we resolve it and get our act together, it's not going away," says board member Darrel Ealum.

The Georgia DOE has not decided when the state interim representative will start but they are requiring Dougherty County to pay for any and all expenses when the representative comes.
