Mid Georgia Ambulance gets accredited

Posted: Updated:
CAMILLA, GA (WALB) -

A private ambulance service is the first EMS agency in our area to earn accreditation.

Mid Georgia Ambulance runs Emergency Medical Services for Mitchell and Cook Counties.

They're now one of only five services in the state accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services.

The designation is based on a higher standard than current state guidelines.

It included a vigorous inspection of the workers, equipment and facilities at the Mitchell County EMS Center.

John Russ, a Mid Georgia Ambulance Paramedic said, "raising the standards with the inspections just raises the level of care that we can provide for our patients."

The accreditation must be renewed every three years and also includes a commitment to educating the community on subjects such as CPR.

Mid Georgia Ambulance employs 17 people in Mitchell County.
