Broad Ave. Bridge will live in a mural

Information from Deftwerk Collective

The old Broad Avenue Bridge will be torn down because it is no longer stable enough to be safely used, but its image will live on-- in paint.

Deftwerk Collective will begin work on the visual layer of a mural recently commissioned by ADICA and Downtown Albany to be painted on the rear facade of the Art park on Pine.

The mural will be an artist's rendition of the Broad Ave Bridge designed by Cameron Malphrus.

Work is scheduled to begin onsite this Monday, September 17, 2012 at noon. Lead artists on this project are Cameron Malphrus and Kris Letlow with help from members of the D'town Arts Coalition and the Georgia Artists Guild of Albany.

The most direct access to the site is to drive towards the Bridge on Broad Ave and turn left into the interior parking lot for the 100 Block of Pine and Broad Ave.

This is the first commissioned mural for Downtown Albany in more than a decade. The artists see this project as a means to help beautify the city, commemorate a historic structure, and expand the artistic culture of Downtown.
