Police got quite a surprise when the woman who led them on a dangerous high-speed chase turned out to be a man.

Lakeland Police say 35-year-old Andre Stubbs led them on a 20-minute chase that reached 125-miles-per-hour yesterday afternoon.

It ended in Atkinson County where he lost control and crashed on highway 441.

Stubbs... Who was dressed as a woman... ran from the crash and was caught in some woods.

Lakeland Lieutenant Deanna Cochran says she thought she was chasing a woman the whole time.

"What appeared to be a woman, me being a female I was going to search for weapons or contraband and during the search it was discovered that he was a male in fact and I discontinued my search," said Cochran.

The chase started after police say Stubbs tried to cash a stolen check at a bank. He was driving a car reported stolen by a car lot because it was overdue after a test drive.

Stubbs and his passenger, Khahifa Gaskins, were arrested and taken to Cook County Jail.

They're both charged with forgery.
