LAKELAND, GA (WALB) -

A Douglas man-- dressed as a woman-- led officers on a high speed chase in Lakeland Wednesday, after he tried to cash a stolen check at a bank.

35-year-old Andre Stubbs led Lakeland Police on a 20 minute chase reaching up to 125-miles-per-hour through Lakeland and into Atkinson County, where he lost control and crashed on highway 441.

Stubbs ran from the wreck and was caught in the woods. Lakeland Lieutenant Deanna Cochran says she thought was chasing a woman the whole time.

"What appeared to be a woman," Cochran said. "Me being a female, I was going to search for weapons or contraband, and during the search, it was discovered that he was a male in fact, and I discontinued my search."

Stubbs and his passenger Khahifa Gaskins were both arrested and taken to Cook County Jail.

They are both charged with forgery and Stubbs faces multiple other charges.
