County health insurance premiums will rise

Posted: Updated:

Health care costs continue to rise for many of us. Dougherty County employees could see an increase in insurance costs in January.

Dougherty County commissioners were brief today by their insurance consultant with Wells Fargo who projects a 3% increase in medical costs and 12% for dental costs next year.

Some commissioners say they have no choice but to pass some of that increase along to workers through higher premiums.

"The most important thing that we're trying to do is to stabilize our plan and to make sure that our employees continue to get quality healthcare at a fair rate," said Dougherty Co. Commission Chairman Jeff "Bodine" Sinyard. "And that's very difficult in these times."

Dougherty County did not have to increase their health care premiums last year.

The commission is expected to vote on the plan during Monday's meeting.
