A hearing date is now set in the election lawsuit filed by Lorenzo Heard. As we awaits a decision, he's moving forward as a write-in candidate, but will he have a chance?
One Dougherty County resident believes unfamiliarity with the write in process could make it difficult for Heard to win.
"Most people like to get out there and campaign for whatever they're running for and if they wait until they have to write in for it, then it just doesn't happen," said Julia Clem a Dougherty County voter.
Election officials say the name doesn't have to be spelled correctly, but it does have to show intent to be valid.
Heard is the only one who qualified as a write in candidate in Dougherty County.
He's challenging Dr. Lane Price, who won the Democratic nomination for the seat.
Superior Court Judge J Richard Porter, from Grady County will hear Heard's case on October 1st at 9 am.
