Dougherty County school board members unanimously approved a state plan aimed at fixing administrative problems within the system.
At Monday night's school board meeting, the superintendent addressed the questionable expenditures of Title One grant money and the district effectiveness plan.
The state department of education is implementing that plan which will address proper use of Title One money, other policies and procedures and support for students impacted by the CRCT cheating scandal.
"It's also going to open up and keep the communication lines open between the department and Dougherty county so we can be there. I think this is very positive for them," explained Avis King, with the Department of Education.
"This district effectiveness plan will not only look at title one, it will not only look at free and reduced meals, it will look at everything in the district to make sure we're moving in the right direction. Which is great, even from the state, throughout," said DCSS Superintendent Dr. Joshua Murfree.
State officials say Dougherty County is one of the first districts to be selected for this new program. Two district effectiveness specialists have been sent to Albany and will meet monthly over the next school year.
"Their goal will be to connect the initiatives that are going on in the district and make sure all the staff, school members, everyone is on the same page. So they are there as a support for the district to make sure everybody is focusing on the right things, including ethical behavior," said King.
Dr. Murfree also told board members his office has sent additional information to the state reclassifying the questionable Title one expenditures.
The state is requiring the system to reclassify or repay more than $134,000 in misused Title One money by September 28th.
