A horse tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV) in Lowndes County. This is the second veterinary case of a mosquito-borne illness in South Health District this year; a horse tested positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) in Lanier County in July.
Fortunately, there have been no human cases of a mosquito-borne illness in our ten county area this year.

Apply insecticides in your yard if you have standing water, which will help control mosquitoes in the larval stage. Use products containing BTI or methoprene and always follow the directions to apply larvicide correctly.
