After four straight close losses, the Valdosta State football team needed a game like this. The Blazers beat up on Fort Valley State 62-14 in its home opener on Saturday. Fort Valley shocked the Blazers in the first quarter with a 80 yard pass from Antonio Henton to Chris Slaughter to give the visitors the lead but that's where the good news ended for Fort Valley.
The Blazers responded with 27 unanswered points in route to the 48 point win. Quarterback Craig Graham, who filled in for the injured Cayden Cochran, stole the show passing for 314 yards and 5 touchdowns. His favorite target was Gerald Ford who finished the day with 5 catches for 152 yards and 3 touchdowns. The VSU offense finished with 561 total yards, including 247 yards on the ground. Running back Cedric O'Neal powered the rushing attack with 10 carries for 131 yards and 1 touchdown.
