CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation announced at 3:21 p.m. Friday that Marshall and Frazier parks are back open.

Occupy protesters were using the parks through the week of the Democratic National Convention. Marshall Park was base camp for the group.

The group was given the notice to clear out early Friday morning. The deadline passed at noon and Occupy Charlotte protesters left Marshall Park peacefully, according to CMPD.

WBTV's crews reported some protesters have stopped to thank police for a "great job" as they left the park.

Late Thursday night, officials told WBTV the decision was being left in the hands of CMPD Chief Rodney Monroe.

Word quickly got around the Occupy camp that they were going to be given a warning to leave at 8:00 a.m. Friday.

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation officials told they will close Marshall and Frazier parks at noon on Friday, to conduct a cleanup of the parks.

Portable toilets that were placed in the parks were removed on Friday morning at 8:00 a.m.

Park officials posted park closing notices Friday morning to allow those who may still be there time to exit before noon.
