You may have noticed bicycle markings popping up in historic central Albany.

The signs mark a route on 3rd Avenue starting at Slappey Boulevard and going all the way to the Riverwalk Trail.

The city got a $5,000 grant from Georgia Bikes! to jumpstart the project.

Downtown Manager Aaron Blair says it's an effort to make Albany more convenient and safer for bikers.

"One of the things that we're trying to promote in the downtown and greater downtown area is a bike friendly and pedestrian friendly type of environment. This is just one step towards that in connecting us to the other areas within the city," said Blair.

All the signs should be up along the new bike route by next week.
