United Way of Southwest Georgia leaders say they see signs of strong community support as they begin their annual fundraising campaign.

At the United Way kickoff luncheon, there was a sellout crowd of more than 250 people.

The goal is $1.2M dollars. Pacesetter groups have already raised $55,000 dollars. Officials say even with current economic challenges, people and businesses are eager to help.

"We all succeed when this community has the key critical areas of education, income, basic needs, and health are met. So everyone has those strong building blocks there, to be able to have a quality life," said LaKisha Bryant, United Way of Southwest Georgia President.

United Way of Southwest Georgia serves 13 counties. One primary goal this year is to use social media and their website to better inform contributors of their work.
