TIFTON, GA (WALB) -
In the past two weeks, there have been five arsons in Tift County. One business was hit on back-to-back nights forcing it to shut down.
A car dealership also burned. While there was no damage to cars, the dealership sustained major damage that will take months to fix. Now, investigators need your help to solve the cases.
A massive hole remains in the roof of Budget Car Sales in Tifton after someone set a trash can on fire behind the building last month. Flames quickly spread to the building itself.
Since then, workers have been operating out of a trailer. "The biggest thing is just the inconvenience. Having to have modular buildings and being in two different buildings at one time with my sales person and I," said Budget Car Sales General Manager Chris Robinson.
Now, investigators are looking into two more arsons that happened in the past week.
On Thursday, a house in the 1500 block of U.S. Highway 319 was reduced to rubble, and on Saturday a stolen 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix was set on fire in some woods near Clint Circle.
And that's not all. A convenience store located on South Main Street was hit by an arsonist twice in two days. The damage is extensive.
"You want to think it's a coincidence, however, in our situation it is arson. It is disturbing that someone would do this to a business and other businesses within the community," said Robinson.
Fire officials tell us they don't think the cases are related, and they are following up on leads in some of the fires.
As for Robinson, he wants these criminals off the streets. "It's wrong to do anyone like this, if a fire is intentionally set and I hope they catch the person or persons involved in this," he said.
For now all he can do is wait and hope another arson in the city doesn't happen.
If you have any information in any of these cases, you're asked to call the Tift County Sheriff's Office or Tifton Police.
