Travelers beware. Both Albany and Dougherty County police were on high alert this holiday weekend.
"We just have our regular officers on the roadways," said DCP Corporal Robert Richard. "We're just doing local enforcement and just continue to provide security to Albany and Dougherty County and just continue to make sure everyone has a safe Labor holiday."
Officer Robert Richard has been with the Dougherty County Police Department for seven years. On Monday he was patrolling the streets of Albany, making sure people were buckled up and sticking with the speed limit.
"We're all about saving lives, not trying to hurt people," Richard said.
He says his Labor Day is like any other. "Mr. Herald, I wrote you a courtesy ticket for not wearing your seat belt, be safe out there, alright?"
And their click it or ticket policy was in full force. "If you're not wearing your seat belt, you're not wearing it at all."
But seat belts weren't the only thing on his check list, making sure people were going the speed limit insured safety on Labor Day weekend.
"We're still going to have those that want to speed seeing that it is light traffic and you know we want to let them know that we are out there and if we catch you speeding we will make contact with you and act accordingly."
And he says having the right amount of officers is key. "The less officers we have, the more time it takes for us to get there because Dougherty County is huge."
